Fall Weather in Montana

Fall is arguably the best season for your elopement in Montana. The landscapes transform into vibrant scenery covered in oranges, yellows, and reds. The days are still warm but not too hot which many couples love. The days are getting shorter though, so we have to plan for an earlier sunset to capture those dreamy golden hour photos.

The fall weather and colors can be unpredictable. The colors start showing off in mid-September at higher elevations and wander down over the next couple of months. One wild storm, though, and there go the leaves!

The weather is generally mild, warm during the day, and cool at night, but you always have a chance of rainfall and even early snow, so I always recommend bringing layers and having a backup plan.

Where to Stay for Your Fall Elopement in Montana

Speaking of backup plans, you will probably need a place to stay anyway, right? Montana’s got some amazing vacation rentals, Airbnb spots, local lodges, hotels, and guest ranches that can double as your elopement location in case the weather isn’t great.

Places like Sage Lodge and Mountain Sky Ranch aren’t just gorgeous – they’re elopement-ready, offering packages to make your day stress-free.

And if you’re thinking about a vacation rental or Airbnb, just chat with the owner about your elopement plans. If it’s just the two of you or other house guests, most are totally cool with it. Just be clear that you’re not planning a big party. Some places are even down for a small crowd if you ask nicely!
